DENTAL SCIENCE

Master Programs in Dental Science at Malmö University

  • 2-year Master Program in Dental Science
  • 3-year Master Program in Dental Science with advanced clinical training

The purpose of the Master Program in Dental Science is to provide students with in-depth knowledge within the main field of dentistry with a particular focus on the chosen dental discipline or subarea, as well as scientific knowledge and skills. The program’s main focus is on theoretical and research-preparatory elements that provide the student with subject knowledge and scientific training. After taking the program, the student should be able to critically assess scientific literature; conduct a focused literature review; with guidance identify a research question and plan, implement and evaluate a scientific project within the subject; present the study results to the scientific community nationally and/or internationally; and prepare a written thesis and ideally also a manuscript draft for publication of the research in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.

Furthermore, the student should be able to function as a resource dentist in the selected clinical dental discipline/subarea covered by the program, as well as be qualified for further postgraduate studies.

In-depth subject knowledge is obtained through auscultations, seminars, preclinical training and participation in the Department’s regular activities. The clinical element within the framework of the Master’s Degree is thus limited in the 2-year program. In the 3-year program the final year provides advanced clinically focused training.

The 2-year program is offered in Periodontology, Prosthodontics, Endodontics, Orofacial Pain and Dysfunction (TMD), Material Science and Technology, Cariology, Oral Biology, Oral Pathology, Orthodontics, Pedodontics, Oral Surgery and Implantology.

The full 3-year program encompasses the above-mentioned master’s program and includes advanced clinical training in a chosen discipline such as Periodontology, Prosthodontics, Endodontics, Orofacial Pain and Dysfunction (TMD) and Implantology.
