Public health students today are more eager and feel better equipped to tackle the issues that global health is typically associated with. The evidence base for solutions has grown, and technological advances have facilitated easier collaboration between countries.

Objective
The objective of the tour aims to:

  • Provide an overview of global health as a field with focus on operations of the World Health Organization and its collaborativeactors.
  • Gain insight into how global health priorities are made at the highest policy level.
  • Provide hands-on experience in the prioritization and delivery of global health activities.

 

Program
Students will visit the World Health Organization headquarters where they will learn about how the organization is structured and its target priorities for 2020. To better understand how the WHO interacts with other actors and how global health policy is translated into tangible projects, student will also visit various leading NGOs, private corporations, institutions of higher education, and UN agencies that work alongside the WHO in the quest to bettering the health of the world. These organizations will include the United Nations High Commission to Refugees (UNHCR), Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), the University of Geneva, the World Economic Forum, and the Global Fund, among others.
