Sweden is internationally known for its generous social welfare system, with tax-financed child care, elderly care, support to people with functional disabilities and various economic security systems.

These courses give participants the opportunity to study the Swedish social welfare system with focus on subjects as elderly care, rehabilitation, assistive technology, housing adaptation, child care and policy making.

Sweden's Elderly Care Model: Theory and Practice

This course covers different aspects of Sweden's elderly care system and social aid services. It aims to provide both basics facts about the Swedish elderly care model as well as to inspire participants. The course includes both Swedish elderly care facilities and social aid services. In addition, participants will make study visits to several different elderly care institutions in Sweden.

Management of Away-from-hospital and Home Care in Sweden

Assisted Living in Sweden is organized primarily by local governments and is designed to assist individuals to continue living at home. The home care services are usually conducted by the municipal staff, but services can also be purchased from private companies. The staff providing home care services consists primarily of nurses and auxiliary nurses but also physiotherapists, occupational therapists and assistants. This course will provide insights for healthcare professionals.

Child Care in Sweden

The Swedish child care model is characterized by flexible use of paid parental leave entitlements, parental entitlements to reduced working hours, high quality children's health care services and affordable child care services that encompass pre-school and out-of-school care.

Although the Swedish childcare model is not directly exportable, it is highly effective. This makes it a highly interesting study subject for those interested in improving childcare services and children's health care services.

Assistive Technology in Sweden and Accessibility for the Disabled

This study visit covers the Swedish system for supporting people with functional disabilities. It discusses how to assess relevant technical aid and support as well as the role of the patients versus the experts. It also focuses on issues such as meaningful occupation for the functionally disabled and handicapped, employer's responsibilities, rehabilitation and habilitation, allowances and community resources as well as the latest developments in technical aids.

Occupational Therapy: Rehabilitation and Health Promotion of Elderly in Sweden

This course covers aspects of different working areas for an occupational therapist such as the design and implementation of various rehabilitation measures and prescription of technical aids, very often together with users and care staff. Other important areas that will be included in this cours are how to assist the care staff in care planning and to develop rehabilitation work in the nursing home activities. Responsibilities also include group activities for the users and also training in the occupational area including the lifting technique. The therapist is often a part of a multi professional team.

Tactile Stimulation: Introduction course and Continuation course

These courses will explain the significance and effects of Tactile Stimulation in everyday care work. The participants will learn how to use Tactile Stimulation when meeting with patients and seniors.
